my guiney

Guiney and me "swimming" in a lake!

I was lucky enough to know all four of my grandparents and three of my great-grandparents! It’s kind of wonderful, really. Many people don’t have that privilege.

My great-grandmother, Guiney, would have turned 101 today! She was an incredible lady- a painter, a world traveler, a writer, a college grad, a musician, and so many other things. She was ridiculously accomplished and everyone adored her.

She passed away on the first day of June in 2007 and Forrest and I got married in her garden almost exactly one year after her death. I am so glad that Forrest was able to know Guiney before she left us!

It’s hard for me to be sad when I think of Guiney.  All I can think is that I am so grateful to have known her and to have had her in my life!

Happy birthday, Guiney!

  1. That is a beautiful picture of two very special people. I think that is the only time I ever saw Guiney in a bathing suit. I still miss her!

  2. I love this picture of you and Guiney! Oh how she loved you so. I miss her so much too. We were all very lucky.
